Souray, Oilers hold off late rally by Canucks

Hockey Betting Lines

12/27/2008 - Vancouver, BC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Sheldon Souray's power-play goal late in the second period proved to be the game-winner, as the Edmonton Oilers fended off the Vancouver Canucks, 3-2, at GM Place.

Marc-Antoine Pouliot and Shawn Horcoff also tallied for the Oilers, who have won two games in a row on the heels of a three-game slide. Ales Hemsky and Lubomir Visnovsky both collected two assists, while Dwayne Roloson made 26 saves, including 13 in a frantic third period.

Mason Raymond and Kyle Wellwood each had a goal for the Canucks, who have lost three of their last four games. Curtis Sanford allowed three goals on 23 shots in a losing effort.

After Raymond put Vancouver on the board with 30.8 seconds remaining in the second period, Wellwood struck on the power play 1:46 into the third, redirecting Alexander Edler's point shot for his 13th goal this season, surpassing his career-high set during the 2006-07 campaign with Toronto.

The Canucks continued to press and nearly came up with the equalizer on several occasions, but Edmonton held on for the victory.

Following an uneventful opening stanza, Pouliot got things started for Edmonton at the 4:27 mark of the second period, taking a pass from Dustin Penner and firing a shot past Sanford.

The Oilers capitalized on a pair of two-man advantages to build a three-goal lead. Horcoff tickled the twine at 8:31, then Souray lit the lamp with 3:14 remaining.

MySportsbook.com week 1 NFL lines

Now that the 2008 NFL schedule is finally out, it is only matter-of-course for lines on “Week 1” to follow.  Of course MySportsbook.com is the first to churn out odds for the NFL’s inaugural week for the upcoming season.   Expect a lot of fireworks the first Thursday night of the season as the defending champion Indianapolis Colts face off against the surprise of the 2008 season, the New Orleans Saints.  These teams were ranked #1 and #3 in the NFL respectively a season ago so a high scoring affair could be in order.  As of now, the Colts will be giving 6 points to the Saints; keep in mind the Saints were one of the better road teams last season going 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS.  The first Monday night of the season will again provide a “double feature”. Coming off a disappointing season, the Cincinnati Bengals will look to get back to playoffs and improve their public image as they take on the AFC North favorite Baltimore Ravens.  The second game features a couple of teams that haven’t had too much success recently but each could make some noise if the NFC is as weak as it was last year as the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect

LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.

Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.

Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.
